Keep the Long Nights at Bay with Self Defense Classes
It's November; the nights are drawing in and what better way to protect your children than by signing them up for self defense classes? You could even consider it an early Christmas present knowing that they are learning something worthwhile that has been designed to save them when they need it the most.
The benefits of learning self defense far outweigh not learning it at all. Here we list a few of the benefits that students can experience:

These, of course, are just a few of the benefits that people have experienced while learning self defense. The classes themselves have been designed so that even after the first lesson students can leave with the knowledge that they have learnt something new and vital for their protection.
As people's lives are dictated by the amount of time they have available the classes make sure they take advantage of this. This means that you'll see the benefits straight away. The instructors want their students to leave happy in this knowledge and want them to come back for more, which is why most programs are designed in this way. After all, it's no good teaching something to someone if they can't learn the basics during the first class.
Some of the places to consider when it comes to signing your children up for self defense classes is their school. In most cases this is often the ideal place to look first as the school will usually hold after school activities for the children to take part in. Another place to think about is the local gym as this is one place you can be sure will hold classes aimed at self defense.
One thing to bear in mind, though, is the age restriction, as some gyms may have a set age that they only accept from. However, that shouldn't put you off from trying your local gym to see what they have available. If they don't have anything they may be able to point you in another direction that does have classes in the age group you need.
Ask friends and family too if they know of any place that does self defense classes. Word of mouth is often the biggest way of finding something out you may not have found out otherwise.
Learning self defense is a lifelong journey and is not something that can be achieved overnight without the correct dedication to it. The skills learnt, though, will be ones that stay with you and your children for a very long time, which is why so many parents are turning their attention to self defense.
Not only that, but by giving your children the chance to learn new skills means that you can rest assured that should they find themselves in a difficult situation they would be able to deal with it with the level-headiness's required. - Always know where your children are.
- Put your children's emergency identification (name, address, phone number) on their clothes.
- Teach your children your home phone number and to how call 911 if there is an emergency.
- Agree on a specific time when children must return home.
- Contact law enforcement authorities immediately if there is any suspicious or unlawful activity.

- Never enter any home without getting your parent's permission first.
- Never get into any vehicle, unless your parents know and have said it's OK.
- Always wear reflective clothing at night.
- Never approach any house that is not well lit.
- Remember anything weird that an adult says or does to you and tell your parents immediately.
- Run away from people who offer you candy or other treats or want you to help look for their puppy or kitten.
- Scream, run and fight if anyone tries to grab you or make you to go with them.
- Don't play in areas that you are unfamiliar with.
- Stay on well-lit streets and always use the sidewalk. If there is no sidewalk, always walk facing traffic.
